Labor Day 2012

Grandma and Grandpa came to visit over Labor Day weekend.  This weekend was also Matt's birthday weekend and my dad's birthday weekend so we had lots to celebrate.  It was so great to see them.  Kinley and I picked them up from the airport holding a sign "Grandma & Grandpa".  We got lots of "oohs and ahhs" for that one from strangers.  I think my parents really liked it.  Grandma took pics but of course her phone messed up so we did mock pics later from the house.  Oh well.

Grandpa hadn't seen Kinley in around 2 months so he was soaking her up!  Kinley had SO much fun with Grandpa & Grandma.  She showed them all her tricks and enjoyed playing with them.  I am not sure who enjoyed playing more... her or them.  Probably a push.

One afternoon, we went to the Omaha Children's Museum.  Kinley ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!  There were all kinds of climbing mats, toys, and other kids to watch. Grandma and I thought it was amazing.  The boys liked it for a while but I think got a little tired after 2 hours of it.  They took power naps in the playroom.  Too cute!  The museum is wonderful!  I can't wait to do all the fun activities they offer with Kinley when she gets big enough.  What a great place!

One evening, Grandma & Grandpa stayed home with Kinley so that Matt and I could have a much needed date night.  THANKS SO MUCH!!!  We had a nice dinner/drinks while they stayed home and did dinner/ baths/and bed.  Kinley worked them a little bit and figured out how to whine so that Grandpa would let her stay up later.  We are in trouble if she is already figuring out how to work them.  Ha!

It was a great visit and we can't wait to see Grandma & Grandpa again soon!  Love you so much!

Look at all these blocks and mats!

She really liked the teter toter thing

YEAH!

Look Grandpa- this is fun!

Grandma, want to play?

Okay, Grandpa, I will play with you.

My first weekend away

So right before Labor Day, I took my first trip away from Kinley.  I met up with my friends Wendy, Lisa, Christy, Kelly Colwell, and Kelly Carlson in KC and we all went down to Wendy's parent's lake house in Lake of Ozarks, MO.  The day before the trip I was so worked up and nervous that I almost backed out.  I am so thankful to Wendy for talking me through it and helping me feel better.

I knew Matt was going to do fine because he is an amazing Daddy.  I just couldn't bear the thought of being away from my baby girl.  I cried for probably 20 minutes when I dropped her off at daycare that day.  Yeah, yeah, I know I am a big baby.  Then I jammed out to my music (and cried periodically) the whole way to KC.  Once I was there though, I was fine.

We had SO much fun and am so very happy that I went.  I love Kinley more than anything in the world but it was nice to have fun with my friends.  I had all these big thoughts of sleeping in... news flash still doesn't happen - all of us moms there were up early every day because our internal alarms were going off.  Oh well.

Matt (of course) did amazing.  I am so glad that he and Kinley got some much needed bonding time. He was awesome and sent me several pics each day.  Plus, I talked to her at least twice each day.  Man, he is a great man.  No wonder she loves her daddy so much.

Thanks girls for a great trip!  Looking forward to the next one!

Road trip to KC

Kinley and I recently took a road trip to KC to meet Grandma for the weekend!  It was a nice meeting spot since we both love KC so much.  Plus, Grandma was missing her little girl so much that she just couldn't wait till Labor Day to see her.  We did a lot of shopping and Kinley hung it pretty well.  Grandma was even nice enough to babysit one night so I could meet up with with my friends for a night out.  Thanks Grandma!  Here are some pics of that weekend.

Not feeling this pic right now, mom

Figured out the stairs

Well, Kinley has officially figured out how to go upstairs!  She started this right before we left for TX.  I left her playing with her toys (across the room) while I ran upstairs for seriously less than 2 minutes.  Pics below are how I found her.  Scared me to death!  We are now working hard on "no stairs" and she pretty much stays away from them.  I still block them if I leave the basement but she is learning to stay away.

Texas Travels

During mid-August, Matt, Kinley, and I all made a trip down to Texas.  This was Kinley's first time to meet her Aunt Jenny, Aunt Sabrina, Uncle Josh, and her cousins Cadence, Savannah, Morgan, and Wyatt.  We had such a good trip.  I was a little nervous because the flight was much longer than she had done before (just over 2 hours on the longest leg) and we had a long layover.  Once again though, Kinley surprised me and did great!  The only interesting part was attempting to have meals in the airport without a highchair.  It was a little messy.

Our trip was great!  Ken and Peggy are finally back to Bryan/College Station and have a wonderful new house.  Kinley was SOOOO excited to see Gammy and Granddaddy again.  Ken hadn't seen Kinley in person since she was about 6 weeks old so needless to say he was surprised at how much she has grown.  Man, did she love her Granddaddy and I think it is safe to say the love was mutual.

Aunt Jenny, Cadence, and Savannah were there all weekend and we had a ton of fun hanging out with them.  They have grown so much since we have seen them.  Crazy.  Those girls are great and were so helpful and loving to "baby Kinley".  Kinley and the girls went to the pool both days.  Kinley HATED ever second that she was in the water.  She had more fun sitting under the cabana and sneaking Chili Cheese Fritos behind my back with Savannah.  (it was adorable -when I told Savannah that baby Kinley couldn't eat those she said "but she likes them!).  Unfortunately, I was horrible at taking pictures and somehow didn't get a pic with Aunt Jenny.

Uncle Josh was in and out and Kinley did really well with him.  Aunt Sabrina came for a few hours on one afternoon.  It was so great to have Morgan and Wyatt get to see Kinley.  Again, those kiddos have grown so much.  So big now.  Morgan was amazing with Kinley.  She is such a loving little girl.

One evening all of Matt's friends from grade/high school, their wives and kids came over for a BBQ.  I was so happy that Matt got to spend time with them and it was nice to catch up.  Kinley LOVED hanging out with the other babies who were just a few months older than her.

Again, we had a great visit.  Hope it isn't that long before we visit Texas again!

This is fun!

9 Months Old!

It is hard to believe that my little girl is 9 months old already!  I feel like it was just yesterday that we were holding her in the hospital.  It makes me so happy and proud to watch her grow and learn new things.  That said, it also makes me sad because she is growing up WAY too fast.

Kinley is definitely developing her own personality.  She is one of the most independent and strong willed babies I have ever met!  It is both incredibly cute and horribly frustrating.  I think I am in for a bit of a challenge with her.  For example, although she is plenty capable of holding her own bottles (she does her own sippy cups and foods) she refuses and throws a fit if we try to have her hold onto it.  She prefers to turn into a little rag doll during feeding times.  Kinley also has started mini tantrums of crying when she is super tired or doesn't get picked up exactly when she wants.  Is it bad that I sometimes laugh when this happens?  I either laugh or tell her that "you're okay" and usually let her calm herself down.  If she doesn't calm down, then I know something is actually wrong and she is not just being a turd.

She is MOBILE!  As I previously posted, she is crawling all over the place.  We had to put up gates upstairs.  I originally wasn't going to gate the bottom of steps going up but she has recently started trying to go upstairs.  Might have to gate those too.  She is also cruising all of the furniture.  This is good in the basement but we are seriously reconsidering our decision of buying a concrete coffee table upstairs.  Oops, who knew!  Turns out our parents might have been right on that one!  (Still learning from you mom - eat it up!)  So far, she has stood alone for 16 seconds max.  She refuses to walk on her walker toy at home but apparently walks all over the place on the walker at school.  Silly girl!

She continues to love bath time!  We are working on sitting on her bottom as she likes to stand.  Kinley has learned what "NO" means and in fact, has started shaking her head "no" at us when we tell her "no".  Too cute!  She is also picking up on what "not in the mouth" , "not for Kinley", and "diaper time" mean.

Kinley definitely loves being around people!  She really enjoys watching groups of people, especially other kids.  She also loves all the attention she gets when in groups.  Not a shy girl at all so far.  I am happy about that because I was horribly shy as a child.  Boy did that change though! Kinley also loves to talk.  She continues to say "dada" and has started saying the "m", "b", and maybe "g" sound.  I have only heard her say "mama" twice and LOVED it.  Now however, when I try to get her to say "mama" she looks at me and says "dada".  It is really hilarious, almost like she is doing it on purpose.  Needless to say, Matt loves it.

Here are a few of her stats:

Height: 28.5" (81.79%)
Weight: 18# 15.4 oz (53.62%)
HC: 45 cm (79%)

Basically she is tall, slender, and really smart!

Clothing/Diapers:  She is wearing 12 months in both sleepers and everyday clothing.  She wears size 3 Pampers Cruisers.

Sleeping:  She still goes to bed between 7 - 8 p.m.  We average 7:30.  She typically sleeps till 5:30 -6:30.  Seems like 10-11 hours is her comfort zone.  On weekends, she will usually wake, eat, and then go back to sleep for a while.  Mommy and Daddy really like this, even if it is only until 7 or so.

Feeding:  Kinley has officially stopped eating baby foods.  About 2 weeks ago, she started turning her head away and getting upset if we tried to feed her baby food.  She is solely on solid foods and bottles.  She is independent with finger feeding and drinking water out of a sippy cup.  She LOVES food and eats anything we eat.  She loves hummus, cheese, most veggies, potatoes, most fruits (especially bananas), fish (salmon, tuna, tilapia, crab), chicken, avocados, and well.... most everything.  She doesn't really care for grapes, strawberries, ham, or peppers.  Kinley takes 4-5 bottles of 4-6 ounces per day depending on her mood.  Right now, she is doing 2 oz formula and 4 oz breastmilk.  I am weaning down breastfeeding.  This has been a huge struggle for me because I feel so guilty.  But, she hasn't nursed in several months and pumping is getting harder and harder.  I am down to 2 pumps / day.  My goal is to be weaned off by 10 months and hope to have enough save for maybe a few more weeks.

WOW, these posts are always so long but I want to make sure I remember everything for when she is all grown up!

Enjoy these pics!
